Over 100,000 tourist arrivals recorded so far in March

Statistic released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MoTE) showed that 108,681 tourists have visited the Maldives in the first 21 days of March this year.

This is a 17.9 percent decrease from compared to March of 2025. Despite this, the total number of tourists for the year has increased, with 590,449 tourist arrivals as compared to the 561,300 in 2025. This reflects a 4.5 percent increase compared to previous year.

Data shows that China holds the highest share of travellers to the Maldives, with 89,443 tourists. Russia follows closely behind, at 71,056 travellers and the United Kingdom comes in third at 55,692 tourists.

The daily average number of tourist arrivals is currently at 7,381, statistics showed. This is an increase compared to the last two weeks, where the daily average was at 4,000 tourists. This drop is due to the Middle East conflict causing flight disruptions. Passengers transiting via this route accounted for 30 percent of all visitors to the Maldives.

Nevertheless, the data shows that relevant initiatives have provided alternative routes for travellers to Maldives, and work done with airlines successfully enhanced tourist figures.

In 2025, over 2 million tourists have visited the country, with the government working to reach 2.5 million arrivals by the end of 2026.
