Maldives urges global action to halt Israeli aggression

The Maldives has issued a strong call for international solidarity to counter Israel’s ongoing destabilising actions in the Middle East, urging the global community to take decisive measures to protect human rights and preserve world peace.

Speaking at the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the Maldives’ Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Dr Salma Rasheed, delivered a powerful statement condemning Israel’s prolonged military campaigns and territorial occupation across the region.

Highlighting the principles of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, Ambassador Salma emphasised that “all human rights are universal, indivisible, interdependent, and interrelated,” and stressed that violations in one part of the world undermine peace and dignity everywhere.

She denounced Israel’s repeated attacks on Palestinian territories as well as its military incursions into Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran that continue to fuel regional instability.

Reiterating the Maldives’ longstanding position, Ambassador Salma called on the international community to hold Israel accountable, halt its aggression, and work collectively toward a just and lasting peace.
