IUM to host premier international research conference in August

The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) is set to host the eleventh edition of its flagship academic event, the International Conference on Intellectual Advancement (ICIA), this August.

Scheduled from 30 to 31 August, the world-class seminar will gather scholars, researchers, and students from across the globe to share groundbreaking research and deliberate on contemporary issues, with this year’s central theme focused on "Building a Learning Society for Sustainable Development."

Dean of the Center for Research and Publication, Dr Aminath Shafiyaa Adam, outlined the conference's core objectives, which are to promote a robust culture of research and intellectual inquiry within the nation, facilitate the exchange of ideas between local and international academics, and crucially, bridge the divide between scientific research and practical policy formulation. The ICIA serves as a pivotal platform for aligning academic discourse with the developmental needs of society.

Researchers and students keen on participating are invited to submit their research papers or posters for presentation through the official conference website. In a move to encourage wide-ranging scholarly contribution, the university accepts submissions in English, Dhivehi, and Arabic. The deadline for abstract and full paper submissions is 15 May, with the registration portal remaining open until 15 July.

To enhance the skills of aspiring academics, a dedicated workshop will be held on 29 August, the eve of the conference. This pre-conference event will offer targeted training in essential research components, including abstract writing, crafting introductions, methodology, and effectively presenting findings and discussions.

Since its inception in 2016 and a strategic rebranding in 2019, the ICIA has solidified its reputation as a cornerstone event for intellectual discourse.
