President says sport transcends boundaries

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the importance of sport in promoting youth development, national unity and long-term progress, in a message shared to mark the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

In a post on social media, the President said the occasion reinforces “a simple yet profound truth” that sport transcends boundaries. He described sport as a key pillar of national identity, as well as a catalyst for youth empowerment and a unifying force that strengthens social cohesion.

The President noted that embracing sport and its values helps instil discipline, resilience, teamwork and respect among young people. He added that these qualities empower youth to lead healthy and purposeful lives, while contributing positively to national development.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the sector, President Muizzu said efforts will continue to support the growth of sport in order to build a healthier nation, inspire excellence among youth and contribute to economic development.

He also highlighted the broader role of sport in shaping a stronger and more united society, calling for the transformative power of sport to be harnessed in guiding the nation towards greater achievements and lasting peace.
