Maldives ambassador presents credentials to Swedish King

The newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Sweden, Aishath Shaan Shakir, has presented her Letters of Credence to the King of Sweden, His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf.

The ceremony took place on 16 April 2026 at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

During the audience that followed, Ambassador Shaan conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the President of the Republic of Maldives, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, as well as from the Government and the people of the Maldives to His Majesty the King, the Government and the people of Sweden.

Ambassador Shaan also reflected on the longstanding ties of friendship between the Maldives and Sweden, expressing her keen interest in further enhancing cooperation across areas of mutual interest during her tenure.

As part of her visit to Stockholm, Ambassador Shaan met with senior officials from Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations and strengthening partnerships within multilateral fora.

Ambassador Shaan was accompanied by Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Maldives in Berlin, Saifulla Waleed.

In addition to her role in Sweden, Ambassador Shaan also serves as the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as Non-Resident Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Finland.
