President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Moosa Zameer as the President of the Local Government Authority (LGA).
Under the Maldives Constitution and the Decentralisation Act, a member of the Cabinet appointed by the President is required to represent the LGA and be answerable to the Parliament on its behalf.
The LGA was previously chaired by former minister Adam Shareef Umar. However, the post became vacant following his resignation from the Cabinet.
Following a recent Cabinet change, the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has now been abolished. The LGA has said the dissolution will not create any legal vacuum for the authority.
