Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Skills Development, Ali Ihusaan, has declared the government’s firm commitment to ending the exploitation of expatriate workers and fostering a better, more equitable environment for all employees in the Maldives.
Speaking exclusively to PSM News during a Workers’ Day march through the streets of the capital, which saw large-scale participation from workers across various sectors, Minister Ihusaan outlined the administration's proactive steps.
He emphasised that ensuring the safety, security, and rights of both Maldivian and foreign workers is a top priority. The government’s current policy, he stressed, is focused on identifying long-advocated issues and implementing the most comprehensive solutions to address them.
"The government is working hard to prevent the exploitation of foreign workers in the Maldives. At the same time, ensuring a better working environment for the people of the Maldives is also an important objective," he explained.
Minister Ihusaan further elaborated on the administration's immediate goals—to provide greater opportunities for Maldivians in the workforce and to swiftly resolve the difficulties faced by all workers.
He highlighted that Workers’ Day serves as a crucial reminder to appreciate the immense contributions of workers to the nation's development. The special march, organised by the Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Skills Development, stood as a testament to this spirit of solidarity, bringing together a diverse group of workers to celebrate their collective role in building the country.
