Sheikh Imthiyaz Abbas, Director General of the Maldives Zakat House, has been appointed as the head of the office established in Mecca to oversee matters concerning Maldivian pilgrims during this year’s Hajj season.
This office is set up annually under the Hajj Mission to closely manage and oversee all Hajj-related arrangements.
In Hajj matters, the Hajj Mission carries out the primary role on behalf of the Maldivian government in coordination with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
While Sheikh Imthiyaz Abbas has been appointed as head of the Mecca Hajj Office, Dr Ilyas Hussain, a member of the Supreme Council for Islamic Fatwa, will participate in Hajj as the religious scholar representing the Maldives.
Work to finalise arrangements for this year’s Hajj from the Maldives is ongoing in line with the schedule set by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
The Maldivian Hajj Mission team travelling for this year’s Hajj will depart for Saudi Arabia tomorrow.
The mission consists of 10 members. The team will ensure that all necessary arrangements are completed before pilgrims travel to Saudi Arabia. This includes checking preparations related to accommodation in Mecca, Hajj rituals, transportation, food, and healthcare services, and ensuring they meet the standards set by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj.
Pilgrims from the Maldives are scheduled to begin their departures for Hajj from the 15th of this month.
