Maldives, Sri Lanka reaffirm strong ties at official talks

President Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake have held official talks on Monday at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, as part of President Muizzu’s ongoing state visit to Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, the two leaders underscored the long-standing and close relationship between the neighbouring countries, which marked 60 years of formal diplomatic relations in July 2025. They also expressed appreciation for the strong people-to-people connections and acknowledged the contributions made by nationals of both countries to each other’s development.

The discussions covered a wide range of areas of mutual interest, reflecting the breadth of existing cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. Both Presidents highlighted the importance of further strengthening collaboration across sectors including economic development, youth empowerment, education, culture and heritage, healthcare and social welfare, security cooperation, and fisheries.

At the conclusion of the talks, President Muizzu and President Dissanayake reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening bilateral engagement and expanding cooperation in areas that support sustainable development and regional stability.

Cabinet ministers and senior government officials from both the Maldives and Sri Lanka were also in attendance at the official talks.
