President vows to revitalise economy and secure prosperity for Maldivians

The Maldivian economy will be revitalised and days of happiness and prosperity will be secured for its citizens, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated at a political gathering for the ruling People’s National Congress.

Outlining his philosophy of managing national affairs through democratic principles, President Muizzu noted that, over the past two and a half years, efforts to establish political stability and rescue the country from its economic abyss have been pursued with a national mindset. The economy had been severely weakened while the opposition was in power, prompting a comprehensive economic strategy over the recent period, President Muizzu argued.

As a direct result of these targeted policies, substantial legacy debts are currently being liquidated, with nearly USD 1 billion in outstanding debt cleared within just the past month and a half, the president announced.

"The formidable undertaking to repay [USD] 974 million over approximately the past 40 days was executed to secure the future of the nation,” the president said. “This reality remains unchanged. As a direct consequence of these measures, the heavy debt burden previously imposed upon every citizen has been substantially alleviated. For the sake of coming generations, the country is being guided toward secure shores. This constitutes the highest priority among the commitments made to the Maldivian nation. That is, the revitalisation of the economy. The ongoing efforts to drive this economic revitalisation are achieving tangible success."

Improving public living conditions remains his paramount focus, President Muizzu underscored. Achieving this objective requires executing key administrative goals, including increasing personal income and ensuring basic housing for all. To actualise these ambitions, the administration is executing a comprehensive economic strategy relying on meticulous planning, the president explained, concluding that these interventions will realise the joyful and prosperous days the public desires.
