Italian Foreign Minister sends condolences to Maldives over death of MNDF diver

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has sent a message of condolences to the Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iruthisham Ali, over the death of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)‘s Staff Sergeant First Class Mohamed Mahdi.

In his message, the Italian Foreign Minister thanked the Maldivian Foreign Minister for her condolences following the tragedy involving five Italian divers, where one died and four remain missing during a diving incident in Vaavu Atoll. He noted that Staff Sergeant Mohamed Mahdi died while taking part in search operations for the missing tourists, and that his death had deepened the grief already felt in Italy.

The Italian Foreign Minister extended condolences to the government, military, and people of the Maldives on behalf of Italy and personally. He also expressed sympathy to the families affected by the tragedy in both countries, while also thanking relevant authorities for their ongoing search and rescue efforts. He further reaffirmed Italy’s readiness to provide assistance and cooperate fully in the operation.
