Gov’t to train state institutions on construction laws and regulations

A comprehensive programme designed to familiarise government institutions with building laws and regulations has been officially launched, marking a significant step toward ensuring compliance and efficiency in the execution of state projects across the country.

The inaugural session took place at the building that formerly housed the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, drawing representatives from various state institutions and state-owned companies.

According to officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, the training programme will continue for two days, reaching dozens of key personnel responsible for overseeing and implementing construction initiatives.

This initiative forms part of a broader series of programmes aimed at educating both the public and professionals in the construction sector about the Construction Act and the comprehensive regulations formulated under its authority. The Ministry emphasised that such educational outreach is essential for creating a unified understanding of legal requirements among all stakeholders involved in the building and construction industry.

The primary objective of the programme is to equip employees working within state institutions and state-owned enterprises with a thorough understanding of construction laws and regulations, thereby facilitating the smooth execution of state-funded projects within the established legal framework. By doing so, the Ministry hopes to reduce bureaucratic delays, minimise legal complications, and promote higher standards of accountability in public construction work.

Throughout the sessions, participants will receive detailed guidance on several critical processes, including procedures for obtaining building permits, approving architectural drawings, and issuing licenses for various construction projects. Additionally, the programme will cover regulations governing the import and production control of construction materials, ensuring that all materials used in state projects meet established quality and safety standards.

The programme also addresses important practical matters such as site safety protocols, procedures for handling regulatory violations, and the responsibilities borne by contractors under existing law.
