Maldives to host WTA gala honouring tourism excellence across three regions

The World Travel Awards (WTA) gala ceremony scheduled to be held in the Maldives this year will recognise and present awards for achievements in the tourism industry from countries across the Indian Ocean region, as well as Oceania and Asia

The flagship event will take place in Crossroads Maldives; a multi-resort island located just 15 minutes from Velana International Airport (VIA).

The WTA has announced that this year’s VIP Gala Ceremony will include dozens of markets from the Pacific and Australasia. Overall, the ceremony brings together government ministers, tourism boards, hospitality executives and international media as the travel industry’s most notable event of the year.

Crossroads comprising of three resorts, namely, SAii Lagoon Maldives, Hard Rock Hotel Maldives and SO/ Maldives across four connected islands. The destination provides world-class dining, leisure and entertainment for a variety of experiences.

The Maldives has previously hosted the WTA in 2017. The nation continues to achieve top honours for sustainability and hospitality excellence as part of this prestigious programme. Currently, the country holds the title of ‘World’s Leading Destination’.

The Maldives hosting the ceremony this year is a recognition of the achievements attained by the nation and provides an opportunity to further its position in the in the global tourism sphere, the World Travel Awards stated.
