President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his congratulations to the 63 youths who have successfully completed the National Service Technical Programme, the first cohort to graduate from the historic vocational training initiative.
In a message shared across social media platforms, the President praised the graduates while acknowledging the parents, teachers, and personnel from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Ministry of Defense and National Service whose collective efforts made the programme's success possible.
The graduating class comprised 37 students aged 17, 24 students aged 18, and two students aged 19, all of whom underwent an intensive four-month training regimen at the MNDF School of Engineering and Logistics located in Kihaadhoo, Baa Atoll. These students had previously expressed their interest in vocational training during the enrollment window that opened for the initial batch of the National Service Programme on 28 December of last year, marking the beginning of what officials hope will become a transformative initiative for Maldivian youth.
The National Service Technical Training Programme represents a cornerstone effort by the government to cultivate a patriotic, spiritually and mentally healthy generation of Maldivian youth. The programme's primary objective extends beyond mere technical skill acquisition— it aims to build a strong, resilient young generation that is well-acquainted with professional work environments and equipped with practical competencies that will serve both the individuals and the nation throughout their careers.
The programme is set to expand significantly with the second batch scheduled to commence on the first of next month. Officials have confirmed that 75 additional youths have enrolled for the upcoming training cycle, reflecting growing interest and confidence in the initiative among young Maldivians and their families.
