Digital move to accelerate health insurance services, says Aasandha chief

The ongoing digitalisation of the national health insurance system will significantly accelerate service delivery compared to current capabilities, Aminath Zeeniya, the managing director of Aasandha Company Limited, announced. The primary cause of current operational delays stems from a high volume of manual processing, which consumes a substantial amount of administrative time, Zeeniya explained during an appearance on the PSM News programme 'Raajje Miadhu'.

To streamline operations, the government recently transferred several vital social welfare services from the National Social Protection Agency directly to Aasandha, consolidating functions that previously divided the nation's healthcare and welfare frameworks. “Managing physical forms and maintaining manual registers is a highly time-consuming process,” Zeeniya said. “The existence of such administrative tasks results in considerable delays to our overall workflow. Once our system is fully digitised, our expectation is that the speed of service delivery will increase dramatically.”

To facilitate public access, authorities launched the 'My Aasandha Portal'. Patients, or designated representatives, can utilise eFaas authentication to submit forms and access medical provisions. The portal also offers information and application pathways for medical assistance programmes administered by various state agencies.

These structural modifications aim to fortify the medical assistance framework while ensuring institutional fiscal responsibility and eliminating potential exploitation. The financial outlay for medical care subsidised through Aasandha has experienced consistent annual growth, driven by heavy costs from importing pharmaceuticals and sustaining ongoing treatments for individuals with chronic illnesses.
