President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that sustaining the Maldives National Service (MNS) Programme is a key government policy for youth development.
Since its launch on 1 October last year, more than 680 youths have already completed training in two batches. Of the 1,785 students who applied during the second recruitment phase of the MNS, 352 students have now departed as part of the third batch to undertake the initial training programme at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Composite Training Centre in Maafilaafushi, Lhaviyani Atoll.
The latest cohort comprises 64 female and 288 male participants from 115 islands across 20 atolls.
In a message shared on his official X account, the President extended his best wishes to the third batch of participants departing for their initial MNS training. He highlighted that the programme covers a wide range of areas, including national identity, responsible citizenship, Islamic values and discipline, leadership, physical fitness and other essential life skills. The President said the programmed is aimed at nurturing a generation of self-confident, mentally and physically resilient, healthy, patriotic and responsible youth grounded in faith.
Graduates of the programme are expected to receive opportunities for government employment.
The programme is also described as helping youths develop good habits, discipline, and strong character, with positive feedback from parents.
