Over MVR409 million spent on health insurance from Jan-Jun 2016

National health insurance provider Aasandha Pvt. Ltd. said on Saturday that over MVR409 million had been spent in the first six months of 2016 from the Government’s budget on health insurance. Last year the company spent over MVR740 million on providing treatment abroad.

Statistics show that MVR409,054,813 was spent from the government’s budget on health insurance in the first half this year.

In this period, over MVR289,549,000 was spent for treatments sought locally, while another MVR119,505,000 was spent for patients who received treatment abroad.

Data from Aasandha show that 5 people had kidney transplants through in the first half of this year, while 13 people had kidney transplants in 2015 and 2014.The number of people who sought treatment for heart diseases during the same period stood at 845, while 1,488 people sought treatment for cardiovascular diseases in the previous year. 720 people sought treatment for cancer in the first half of 2016 compared to 905 people in the whole of 2015.
