The Maldives has increased its tourism accommodation capacity by more than 600 beds during the first half of the year, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
As of now, the total number of beds available for tourists has reached 68,000.
The ministry's latest statistics show that there are currently 68,142 beds in operation across the tourism sector. By the end of last year, the total stood at 67,475 beds, representing an increase of 667 beds.
The statistics also show that 1,302 tourism establishments are currently in operation across the Maldives. These comprise 179 resorts, 934 guesthouses, 173 safari vessels and 16 hotels.
The ministry said tourism accommodation capacity has continued to expand despite ongoing global economic challenges.
According to the latest figures, the Maldives has welcomed 1,114,751 tourist arrivals so far this year. However, this represents a 4.9% decline compared with the same period last year.
