President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani have discussed strengthening Maldives-Qatar relations.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, received President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in audience at Lusail Palace in Doha, Qatar, on Monday.
During the audience, President Dr Muizzu reiterated, on behalf of the people of the Maldives, his condolences following the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of the State of Qatar.
The Emir and the President also discussed the longstanding brotherly ties between the Maldives and Qatar, reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthening the close cooperation between the two countries.
President Dr Muizzu's official visit reflects the significant contributions of the late former Emir to the Maldives. The late Emir played a pivotal role in strengthening Maldives–Qatar relations, including facilitating the commencement of Qatar Airways' operations in the Maldives, the establishment of Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School in Laamu Atoll, and the construction of Masjid Al Sheikh Qasim bin Al Thani in Hulhumale’.
