MACL draws up plans to further develop ATC system

Maldives Airports Company (MACL) has said it is drawing up plans to further develop air traffic management system in the country.

Speaking on PSM’s Raajje Miadhu programme on Thursday, Associate General Manager of MACL’s Air Traffic Services Ibrahim Hameed said that work is ongoing to install a secondary surveillance radar system under Ibrahim Nasir International Airport development project. He said “the Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) system installation project is expected to be completed by 2020, and the system will give 100 percent surveillance of the country’s entire airspace.”

Speaking about the country’s achievements in improving air traffic services, Hameed said that Maldives is amongst the first two countries to have achieved the goals set by International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO for the Asia Pacific region. He also said the Maldives has the strongest SSR system in the region.
