High Commissioner of Ghana to the Maldives, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, and Non-Resident High Commissioner of Canada to the Maldives, Isabelle Marie Catherine Martin, have presented their Letters of Credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at separate ceremonies held at the President’s Office.
The High Commissioners were escorted in traditional ‘Haiykolhu’ cultural processions, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band, before the President formally welcomed them to their respective roles.
Following the ceremonies, the President held separate discussions with both High Commissioners.
In his meeting with the Ghanaian High Commissioner, they discussed strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, tourism, and other technical sectors. Both sides expressed their dedication to collaborating for the benefit of both nations and to enhancing their partnership across regional and global platforms.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Ghana were established on 10 August 1989.
During the President’s meeting with the Canadian High Commissioner, discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including climate change adaptation, seaplane cooperation, women and youth empowerment, and gender equality. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Canada were established on 14 December 1981.
