Velana International Airport (VIA) has recorded its highest-ever monthly transshipment cargo volume, according to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
MACL said more than 2,000 tonnes of transshipment cargo were handled through VIA in July, breaking all previous monthly records. The company described the achievement as a significant growth for sea-to-air and air-to-air operations.
MACL said sea-to-air cargo alone reached 621 tonnes in July, the highest monthly volume since the service was launched. The growth shows VIA’s increasing role as a regional logistics hub connecting markets in Asia, Europe and other regions, the company said. It also highlights the development of the airport’s cargo handling capacity and international logistics services.
