Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) - former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom on Thursday announced his decision to withdraw support to the government.
Speaking to the media, President Gayoom said that despite the decision to withdraw support to the Yameen administration, he will still continue my work to build and strengthen PPM.
He also highlighted that PPM is currently the biggest political party in the country in terms of membership, and added that “party will continue to be the strongest political party in the country.”
He also went on to criticise the Yameen administration, Parliament and the judiciary, and added that “the freedom to exercise political activities has been repressed under the current administration.”
Referring to the leadership dispute within the party, President Gayoom claimed that he remains leader of the party.
Former Home Minister Umar Naseer and Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim also attended the press conference.
