Financial assistance totalling USD 3.79 million was provided to persons with disabilities last month, marking an increase from USD 3.68 million in July, according to official data released by the National Social Protection Agency.
The expansion in expenditure coincided with a growing national registry, where 169 new enrolments raised total enrolment to 15,665 individuals, comprising 9,057 males and 6,608 females. Within this registered population, disbursements reached 15,498 beneficiaries. Working-age adults between 18 and 64 years old formed the largest demographic segment at 7,944 individuals, including 4,055 men and 3,889 women.
Physical impairments represented the primary classification across the database at 4,240 individuals. Multiple disabilities affected 3,548 people, followed by psychiatric conditions at 2,508, hearing and speech impairments at 1,869, cognitive conditions at 1,812, and visual impairments at 1,033. Autism spectrum conditions accounted for 594 individuals, while learning disabilities were recorded for 61.
Beyond direct assistance, state expenditure for specialised therapeutic treatments reached USD 527,410.18 across 499 individuals, agency records show. Beneficiaries included 364 males and 135 females, with paediatric patients under 18 constituting 481 recipients alongside 18 adults aged between 18 and 64. By discipline, occupational therapy assisted 145 individuals, behavioural therapy 140, speech therapy 113, and educational therapy 73, while psychotherapy covered 11, physiotherapy 10, and early intervention services five.
