The first segment of the Ameenee Magu road rehabilitation project has been fully paved, with both asphalt layers now completed.
MTCC began paving the first segment of the area where rehabilitation work is underway last Saturday. The company began laying the second asphalt layer yesterday, and the work was completed this morning.
MTCC said that following the completion of the paving work, the remaining works will include final tasks such as road marking.
The rehabilitation of the damaged section of Ameenee Magu was awarded to MTCC in June this year. The roadworks are being carried out in several segments, with Segment 1 covering the section from Izzuddin Magu to the boundary of the park near Dharumavantha Hospital.
Following completion of the first phase of the roadworks, preparations have also been completed to begin paving Segment two, which covers the section from Izzuddin Magu to Ghiyasuddin School.
Technical officials have noted that the newly paved sections of Ameenee Magu could deteriorate quickly if the road is opened to traffic before the asphalt has properly cured. The area is particularly vulnerable to damage as it is heavily used by buses. In addition, prolonged exposure to the Maldives’ high temperatures can also affect the asphalt.
