The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) has announced five grant schemes worth a combined USD 56,420 to advance research and scholarly work.
The university's Centre for Research and Publications has allocated the grants specifically for this year. IUM said the schemes aim to further strengthen research at the university by providing technical and financial support for studies that benefit society, while creating opportunities for academic staff and students to further develop their academic experience.
The five initiatives are the IUM Research Promotion Scheme, IUM Innovation Scheme, Book Publication Opportunity, IUM Postgraduate Research Grant Scheme and IUM Conference Travel Grant.
Under the IUM Research Promotion Scheme 2026, the university will provide USD 25,940 to encourage the creation of knowledge and new ideas that benefit society and promote the publication of research. Each grant will provide a maximum of USD 4,864.
The IUM Innovation Scheme 2026 has an allocation of USD 12,970 and aims to facilitate innovative projects and creations that can have a positive impact on Maldivian society. The scheme will fund two projects.
The Book Publication Opportunity 2026 supports the writing, compilation, translation and publication of books required by the university. IUM has allocated USD 6,485 to the scheme, with between USD 649 and USD 2,594 available for each book.
The IUM Postgraduate Research Grant Scheme 2026 will support research by master's and PhD students studying in research mode. The scheme has an allocation of USD 3,243, with a maximum of USD 811 available for each project.
The IUM Conference Travel Grant 2026 will provide university staff with opportunities to present papers at conferences and gain academic experience. Under the scheme, IUM will provide a maximum of USD 1,621 for each conference.
Across the five grants, priority areas include Islamic studies, economics and finance, human science, law, Arabic language, technology, language and linguistics, education and Government reform policies.
Applicants must submit their applications through the designated Google Forms. IUM will accept proposals until the 15th of next month.
