Mutual respect for one another constitutes one of the most vital attributes of a society founded on noble Islamic principles, Heena Waleed, the Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, stated. Her remarks were delivered on Public Service Media’s 'Raajje Miadhu' programme regarding the administration’s upcoming campaign, 'Ih’thiraam Adhaa Kurumuge Qaumee Mash’roo’u' (National Respect Initiative). Maldivians have historically maintained an enduring record of hospitality, unity, and social cohesion, Minister Heena noted.
Elaborating on the slogan announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, centred on the joy of respect and societal benefits, the minister observed that mutual regard fosters stability, describing it as the foundation of Maldivian heritage.
“Among the foundational pillars of reviving our national identity, we must endeavour to re-instil the noble habit of mutual respect among us, re-establishing the Islamic etiquette, as well as the camaraderie, unity, mutual care, and compassion that existed among Maldivians during the era of our ancestors,” Minister Heena stated.
Consultations with civil society organisations and local associations will guide the nationwide initiative, ensuring participation across all sectors, including persons with disabilities, the minister explained. A dedicated web portal is being established to host messages, photographs, videos, and official documentation, as the ministry prepares to open the digital platform for design.
