The Maldives and Belarus have signed an agreement allowing their nationals to travel between the two countries without visas, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and people-to-people contact.
The agreement was signed in New York on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldivian government, while Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov signed for Belarus.
Under the agreement, nationals of both countries will be able to enter without a visa for a single stay of up to 30 days.
It also allows multiple-entry stays for a cumulative period of up to 90 days within a calendar year.
Following the signing, Minister Iruthisham thanked Belarus for its commitment to strengthening relations and cooperation with the Maldives.
She said the agreement would create further opportunities for engagement and increase people-to-people contact between the two countries.
