In compliance with the Parliament’s transparency regulations, 91 of the 93 current parliamentarians have filed their mandatory financial disclosures for the year ending 31 August, and the documents have been uploaded to the official Parliament website.
The deadline, which requires each MP to submit a statement within one year of taking the oath of office, marks the second filing cycle for the sitting parliament. The only incumbent who missed the cut‑off is Machangolhi North MP Ibrahim Mohamed, whose statement remains outstanding.
Former lawmaker Mohamed Sinan, who vacated his seat for Hithadhoo North in April , also submitted his second‑year statement, fulfilling the obligation that applies to any parliamentarian who served during the reporting period. By contrast, newly elected Hithadhoo North MP Abdulla Sodiq is exempt for this cycle, having been sworn in on 15 June and therefore not yet subject to the annual filing requirement.
The disclosures, which detail each member’s assets, liabilities and sources of income, are intended to promote accountability and curb corruption within the legislative branch. The Parliament’s compliance rate of nearly 98 percent reflects a strong adherence to the financial‑transparency law.
