President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to introduce additional specialised fields and internship programmes under the National Service Programme as the programme marks its first anniversary.
President Dr Muizzu announced the plans in a social media post marking one year since the Government launched the National Service Programme on 1 October last year. He said the Government launched the programme with determination and hope, aiming to open an entirely new pathway to shape and brighten the future of Maldivian youth.
Commemorating the anniversary, President Dr Muizzu congratulated the young people who completed training under the National Service Programme and their families, and thanked everyone involved in successfully carrying forward the programme. He also noted that the Government achieved its target of training 1,000 young people through the programme within its first year.
Reflecting on the programme's progress, President Dr Muizzu said the past year had seen successful and productive work carried out for young people through the National Service Programme. He said 1,028 Maldivian youth received training through National Service Initial Training, while 136 young people received training through the National Service Skill Training Programme.
Looking ahead, President Dr Muizzu said the Government plans to introduce additional specialised fields under the National Service Programme, along with National Service internship programmes. He added that the Government also aims to expand the role of the National Career Service in facilitating employment opportunities for young people who complete National Service training.
The National Service Programme was launched by President Dr Muizzu to build the future of Maldivian youth by fostering national spirit and Islamic values. The programme seeks to strengthen national spirit and pride among Maldivian youth and develop citizens who value Islam and possess a strong commitment to serving the nation.
More than 1,000 participants across three batches have completed training under the programme.
