Pres. confers Nat'l Award of Honour & Nat'l Award of Recognition

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has presented the National Award of Honour and the National Award of Recognition.

The awards were presented at the official function held Thursday evening at Dharubaaruge, to mark this year’s Republic Day.

Recipients of the National Award of Honour received a shield of honour, a badge of honour and a commemorative plaque, while the recipients of the National Award of Recognition received a commemorative plaque and a certificate.

Four honourees received the National Award of Honour this year, with one being honored posthumously.

Four honourees received the National Award of Honour this year, with one being honoured posthumously. The four are;

1.Mr. Adam Abdul Rahman, for his contribution in the area of Dhivehi literature

2.Mr. Ahmed Shakir, for his contribution in the area of historical Dhivehi literature

3.Mr. Mohamed Nizar, for his contribution in the area of Social Services (providing services beneficial to the society)

4.Mr. Ahmed Nashid (Posthumous), for his contribution in the area of Performing Arts (Singing, Music and Composition)

Twenty honourees received the National Award of Recognition. They were:

1.Al-Hafizah Safiyya Ahmed, in the area of recitation and teaching of Quran

2.Sheikh Ibrahim Ahmed, in the area of promoting Islamic awareness and teaching Islamic studies

3.Mr. Ahmed Athif, in the area of Education (promotion of educational development)

4.Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Ali Shahid Mohamed, in the area of Health promotion and awareness

5.Ms. Fauziyya Mahmood, in the area of Social Services and promotion of Human Rights (contribution of services to individuals and children with special needs)

6.Mr. Mohamed Adeel, in the area of Social Services (humanitarian service)

7.Ms. Mariyam Faiza, in the area of Arts and crafts (contributing and promoting to craftsmanship)

8.Mr. Ahmed Zahir Mohamed, in the area of Information and News Dissemination (promoting journalism)

9.Mr. Hafsy Abdulla, in the area of Information and News Dissemination (program production)

10.Mr. Ahmed Abeer Ismail, in the area of Sports (sports management and technical services to sports development)

11.Dr. Hussain Haleem, in the area of Sports (professional sportsman and training)

12.Ms. Mueena Mohamed, in the area of Sports (professional sportsman and training)

13.Mr. Mohamed Zilaal, in the area of Sports (professional sportsman and training)

14.Mr. Ahmed Akram, in the area of Sports (professional sportsman and technical services to sports development)

15.Sergeant Ahmed Zunaij, in the area of Sports (professional sportsman and technical services to sports development)

16.Colonel Abdul Matheen Ahmed, in the area of Visual Arts (illustration, calligraphy and design)

17.Mr. Faruhaad Ibrahim, in the area of Visual Arts (illustration, calligraphy and design)

18.Ms. Mariyam Unoosha, in the area of Performing Arts (Singing and training)

19.Ms. Raheema Adam, in the area of Women (promoting women rights and progress)

20.Mr. Hassan Shiyam, in the area of Youth (volunteerism)

In addition, the National Award of Recognition was also presented to two associations. Namely:

1.Journey, in the area of Social Services (contribution on elimination of negative action in the society)

2.Hanimaadho Youth Association, in the area of Social Services (contribution to community and services beneficial to the society)

In his speech, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom extended his congratulations and warm wishes to all the recipients of this year’s National Awards.
