The Greater Male' Transport and Mobility Office and the Maldives Police Service have discussed working together to find sustainable solutions to traffic problems in the Male' area and strengthen road safety and security.
The discussions were held between Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Male' Transport and Mobility Office, Yoosuf Maaniu, and Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed.
During the meeting, held at the Police Headquarters in the Shaheedh Hussain Adam Building, discussions focused on measures needed to address traffic congestion and related issues in the Greater Male' area.
The two officials also discussed strengthening cooperation between the Maldives Police Service and the Greater Male' Transport and Mobility Office, and coordinating efforts to ensure greater road safety and security for the public.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu established the Greater Male' Transport and Mobility Office in July this year to address the growing number of vehicles on roads in the Male' area and the resulting increase in traffic congestion. The office was established to develop and implement programmes in coordination with relevant authorities to find swift solutions to traffic-related challenges.
The office will also play a leading role in modernising the transport system in the Male' area, identifying parking facilities and other modern solutions, and implementing initiatives to develop such facilities.
The Greater Male' Transport and Mobility Office operates under the guidance of a governing board. Its responsibilities include developing and implementing programmes in coordination with relevant authorities to address traffic congestion in the Male' area. The office is also tasked with advising relevant authorities on policies required to provide comprehensive solutions to congestion caused by the increasing number of vehicles on roads.
In addition, the office will be responsible for modernising the transport system in the Male' area, identifying parking facilities and other modern solutions, and taking a leading role in implementing initiatives to develop such facilities.
