Maldives welcomes more than 100,000 tourists from Germany

According to statistics by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, over 100,000 German tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year.

The statistics show that 101,366 tourists from Germany have travelled to the Maldives so far this year. This makes them the fourth largest group of tourists by nationality. A total of 167,822 German tourists had visited the Maldives in the last year alone.

Work is underway to further increase the number of tourists that arrive from Germany. In this regard a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) and DERTOUR Deutschland GmbH. The MoU was signed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to Germany, where he took participated in the Maldives-German Business Roundtable. The MoU stated that both parties would work together to bring 100,000 tourists from Germany this year and to bring 200,000 tourists in the following year.

According to the tourism ministry’s statistics, China makes up the largest group of tourists by nationality with 308,913 tourists. Russia makes up the second largest group with 232,676 and England makes up the third with 121,239 tourists.
A total of 1.6 million tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this year. Statistics show that out of these tourists 1 million chose to stay at resorts and 349,861 tourists chose to stay at guesthouses.
