MNDF receives two new naval patrol vessels

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has received two new naval patrol vessels under the country’s efforts to further strengthen its maritime security capability.

The vessels were delivered as part of a MVR129 million contract signed in February between the Government and Solar Marine Lanka Private Limited. Under the contract, the Sri Lankan company will build five naval patrol vessels for MNDF.

According to MNDF, the remaining three vessels are expected to be delivered before the end of the year.

Earlier this month, Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar said “the Government attaches high priority to protect the country’s vast maritime territory, and is working to acquire vessels and equipment to ensure maritime safety and security.”
