Kaashidhoo in Kaafu Atoll has hosted a family evening to mark World Mental Health Day, bringing together children and families for activities aimed at raising awareness of mental health and promoting community support.
The event, titled "Viluntheri Aailee Mahaasamaa", was organised jointly by the National Mental Health Department, Kaashidhoo Council and Kaashidhoo Health Centre.
Minister of Health, Family and Welfare Geela Ali visited the event and toured the various stalls.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister Geela Ali said mental health remains an issue that many people struggle with, often enduring their difficulties in silence. She said initiatives of this kind could help communities work together to achieve meaningful results.
“We hope that by holding more activities of this kind, we can provide mental health information to more people and raise awareness so that those who need care can receive support. If we continue these efforts within our communities, we hope that everyone experiencing mental health difficulties will have someone nearby who can provide the support they need,” the Health Minister said.
The event attracted a large number of children and families, who took part in activities and enjoyed time together.
A range of stalls was set up to encourage participation by people of all ages. The stalls offered information and recreational activities designed specifically for children and adults.
World Mental Health Day is observed annually on 10 October. This year, the Maldives is officially marking the occasion in Kaashidhoo.
