President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has departed for a state visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
During the visit, which runs from today until 22 October, President Muizzu is scheduled to meet Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior officials. The President’s Office said he will also hold official talks with Prime Minister Sharif to further strengthen the close ties between the Maldives and Pakistan.
Following the talks, the two leaders will witness the exchange of several memoranda of understanding aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.
The visit marks the first time a Maldivian president has visited Pakistan in the past decade. It comes as the two countries mark 60 years of diplomatic relations, established on 26 July 1966.
The President’s foreign policy is guided by the “Maldives First” principle, which prioritises close relations with neighbouring countries and active engagement on the international stage to build bilateral partnerships that support the development and progress of the Maldives.
President Muizzu will be accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, members of the Cabinet and senior government officials, the President’s Office said.
