President Dr Mohamed Muizzu was officially received in Pakistan on a state visit hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, arriving at the Prime Minister’s official residence where a military Guard of Honour was presented for the visiting head of state. President Muizzu was accompanied during the arrival honours by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.
Undertaken upon the formal invitation of Prime Minister Sharif, the mission involves high-level bilateral talks between President Muizzu, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Sharif, and other senior government dignitaries.
President Muizzu and Prime Minister Sharif will also preside over an official ceremony to exchange several Memorandums of Understanding intended to expand bilateral cooperation across key sectors. Accompanying President Muizzu on the state visit is a high-level government delegation comprising members of the Maldivian Cabinet and senior state officials.
The diplomatic engagement represents the first official visit by a Maldivian president to Pakistan in ten years, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Pakistan, which were first inaugurated on 26 July 26 1966.
