President Muizzu sets 70 percent completion target for ongoing projects in 2027

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the government aims to complete 70 per cent of projects already awarded by the end of next year.

Speaking on Nation Chat programme, the President outlined key priorities in the proposed state budget for 2027.

President Muizzu said his administration had spent its first three years working to reduce national debt, improve the Maldives’ credit rating and establish a foundation for projects to proceed without delays. He said the government had taken important and responsible measures towards achieving these goals.

The President said the proposed budget, which is scheduled to be presented to the Parliament, would prioritise completing 70 percent of projects already awarded and delivering their benefits to the public.

He added that some projects would still need to be awarded to fulfil his electoral pledges. However, the government would focus more on completing ongoing projects rather than starting new ones.

“For example, if 100 projects have been awarded, we aim to complete 70 of them and hand them over to the public. That is the target for next year,” President Muizzu said.

The President also said the government’s policy of reducing expenditure would be reflected in the 2027 budget.

He added that the budget would outline efforts to reduce the fiscal deficit, improve macroeconomic indicators and strengthen fiscal responsibility.

President Muizzu said the budget would demonstrate that his administration was fulfilling its responsibility to deliver development and meet the needs of the public.

He further noted that international organisations were taking notice of the government’s work and expressed confidence that the Maldives would attract more investors in the coming years.
