Government contracts 15-storey military housing and logistics complex

Construction of a 15-storey integrated accommodation and logistics building at the 'Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi' military complex of the Maldives National Defense Force has been contracted to a Chinese engineering company, the Ministry of Defence and National Service has announced.

The high-rise facility fulfils a key infrastructure commitment pledged by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, during this year’s Presidential Address regarding military development. Under an agreement executed on a design-and-construction basis at 'Bandaara Koshi' MNDF Headquarters, Deputy Minister of Defence and National Service Fathimath Mizna Ali signed on behalf of the ministry, whilst Managing Director Zhou Weidong represented China’s Rotime Engineering and Technology Co. Limited.

The project represents the largest infrastructure development initiative in the country's military history, undertaken to bolster operational capabilities and resolve critical accommodation and logistics requirements for the armed forces. Work on the 15-storey facility at 'Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi' is scheduled to reach completion within a two-year timeframe, the ministry stated.

The signing ceremony convened senior military and government leadership, including Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas, general officers, senior ministry officials, and executive representatives from Rotime Engineering and Technology Co. Limited.
