Minister of Health, Family and Welfare Geela Ali has held discussions with officials of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) regarding the planned construction of a 50-bed hospital in Veymandoo, Thaa Atoll.
During a meeting with a KFAED delegation, the Minister shared details of the Government’s vision for the project and discussed plans for the proposed hospital with the fund’s officials.
The discussions also focused on strengthening the Maldives’ healthcare sector, expanding access to quality healthcare services across the country and exploring opportunities for further partnerships.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced in November 2025, during a visit to Veymandoo, that the 50-bed hospital would be developed with assistance from the Kuwait Fund.
The Government aims to bring essential services closer to communities, reducing the need for residents to travel long distances and incur high costs to access healthcare.
Once completed, the project is expected to improve the quality of healthcare available in Veymandoo and expand the range of services provided by the hospital.
The hospital currently offers services including psychiatry, physiotherapy and speech therapy, alongside other healthcare services. It also provides dental care, specialised paediatric services and important treatments such as dialysis.
