President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said the 25-storey diagnostic centre being built under Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital expansion project will have all the modern diagnostic and treatment technologies.
He revealed it at a function held Sunday evening to inaugurate the National Uro-renal and Fertility Centre, Non-invasive Ventilation Unit, Operation Theatre Complex, Intensive Care Unit and Total Laboratory Automation System at IGMH.
Speaking at the function, the President noted the value of the services being provided by nurses and other professionals working within the health sector and highlighted that guaranteeing accommodation facilities demonstrates the appreciation of their hard work. IGMH unveiled its new logo at the function, abandoning the logo it used for the past 20 years.
While touching on the newly introduced IGMH logo, President Yameen remarked that it represented the special bond between the people serving at the hospital and those who visit to seek medical services, and expressed his hopes that the newly introduced facilities would enhance the quality of services provided to the people.
In his speech, the President also stated that a Pulmonary-respiratory department and kidney transplant services will be introduced by next year. He noted that the people who are to provide technical services to the citizens should be well trained; that the administration accords high priority to train professionals in various sectors in order to provide better services to the public.
President Yameen was accompanied at the function by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim, Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and Vice Chairperson at the governing board of IGMH, Dr. Abdul Azeez Yoosuf.
During the function, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu presented flats to 10 nurses and 10 doctors at IGMH.
The function also saw the handing over of medical equipment gifted by Ministry of Islamic Affairs to the hospital.
