Economic Minister, Mohamed Saeed pledges to transform Maldives into a country which ensures the rights of expatriate workers.
The Minister made the remarks during the opening of the "Anti-trafficking Policy Dissemination Forum" held at Hotel Jen.
The "Anti-trafficking Policy Dissemination Forum" was organized by Economic Ministry and International Organization for Migration in cooperation with international bodies to inform authorities on the rights of Migrant workers and ways to ensure it.
The forum is organized as part of the human trafficking prevention laws.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, held at Hotel Jen, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that the employment sector of the country has seen a drastic expansion due to the revolutionary policies brought forward by the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for the betterment of the society and economy of the country.
“The expansion of the employment sector has doubled the number of local and expatriate workers in the country. The government aims to create awareness amongst the public regarding the expansion of the employment sector”, said Minister Saeed.
“The government aims to prevent mistreatment of expatriate workers, which are often practiced in undeveloped nation”, the Economic Minister, further added.
He further added that the aim of the government is to ensure the rights of expatriate workers are met, by providing them with better salaries and remunerations, housing, medical and other services.
