The Maldives saw a 4.6 percent increase in tourist arrivals by the end of November 2016 compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of Tourism has said.
Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry showed that 1,166,615 tourists visited the country from January to November 2016, while the arrival figures for the same period in 2015 stood at 1,114,993. Tourist arrivals stood at 104,572 in November 2016, up 16 percent compared with the same month last year.
The country received most tourists in November from Asia Pacific, Europe and America, according to the Ministry. China, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, and Russia accounted for the highest number of visitors to the country during the month.
Over 18,000 Chinese tourists visited the Maldives in November, while visitors from Germany stood at over 10,700. 8,071 British tourists visited the country during the month, while arrivals from Italy and Russia reached 4,987 and 4,750 respectively.
The Ministry also said that tourist arrivals grew in December 2016 compared to the corresponding month last year.
