The 6th round of Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China was held in Male’ City on Sunday.
“During the consultations, the two countries discussed cooperation in areas of mutual interest including development cooperation, tourism promotion, human resources development, youth and sports, trade as well as investment cooperation between the two countries,” said a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “The two countries also exchanged views on the ongoing Chinese government funded mega development projects such as the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge Project, Social Housing and the project to upgrade and expand Velana International Airport.”
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China. A series of events have been planned to celebrate the occasion colourfully in both countries throughout the year, according to the statement.
The Maldives delegation was headed by Secretary, Bilateral Ahmed Khaleel while Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou led the Chinese delegation.
