The Non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan, Sirajuddin Hamid Yousif, presented his Letter of Credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning, at the President’s Office.
At the ceremony, the President congratulated Ambassador Yousif on the commencement of his term and welcomed the Ambassador to the Maldives.
During the call, the President reflected on the 35 years of diplomatic ties between the Maldives and Sudan. Speaking at the occasion, the President remarked that the Maldives and Sudan have been working closely on strengthening cooperation in the area of Islamic Fiqh and modern Islamic philosophies. The President also highlighted on new avenues to enhance the existing relations between the two countries. In this regard, the President proposed to establish trade and investment links in potential areas of comparative advantage.
The Ambassador conveyed greetings and good wishes of the President of Sudan, Field Marshall Omar Hassan A. Al-Bashir, and particularly emphasized on tourism promotion between the Maldives and Sudan.
The President was accompanied at the call by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim, and the Minister of State for Foreign Relations, H.E. Mohamed Naseer. The Ambassador was accompanied by Military Attache’, Brigadier Osman Ismail Siraj, Counsellor, Abdelrahman Ali and Attache’, Ishag Yousif Ishag.
