High Court upholds lower court verdict on Imran Abdulla

High Court today, has upheld the Criminal Court's verdict, sentencing the President of Adhaalath Party, Imran Abdulla, to 12 years of imprisonment.

All three Justices of the High Court bench coincided that there was no room to find the lower court's verdict unconstitutional or in violation of judicial principles. The bench also declared that the appellant was unable to show any reason that could invalidate Criminal Court's verdict

Terrorism charges were raised against Imran for delivering a speech which encouraged violence, during the 2015 May Day protest, staged by the opposition. Criminal Court found Imran guilty of terrorism and was convicted on 16th February 2016.
