MIRA sends 13 cases for prosecution

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has forwarded cases related to 13 businesses, that had failed to pay lease rents and fines for islands and land released for tourism related businesses, have been sent for prosecution in April.

These cases include those related to eleven islands leased to businesses, according to MIRA. Reminding that MIRA is legally bound to take action against businesses that default in tax payments, MIRA said that the authority was proceeding in accordance with its enforcement policy.

MIRA also noted that of the 214 court cases where verdicts have been delivered, the verdicts were in favor of the state. MIRA reiterated that the process is conducted in an unbiased and transparent manner.
