New mosques to be built after Ramadan

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad has announced that instead of repairing some mosques, the ministry has planned to build new mosques, after the month of Ramadan.

Speaking with PSM News about Islamic Ministry's preparations for the holy month of Ramadan, Minister Ziyad said that the old structures would be demolished and new mosques would be constructed on the plots. However, he assured that renovation work is underway in mosques where renovation and repair was necessary. Minister Ziyad also said that like other years, the Ministry would carry out various religious programmes during the month of Ramadan.

The Islamic Minister further said that this year, the Ministry plans to carry out such programs for the benefit of Maldivians residing abroad as well. He also revealed that unlike other years, local ḥuffāẓ would be leading the Thraaweeh prayers in mosques across the country, this year.
