Maldives ready to assist Saudi Arabia combat terrorism

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim says that Maldives is set to support Saudi Arabia in the efforts to combat terrorism.

In an exclusive interview to PSM News from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Minister congratulated the decision on Arab-Islamic American countries working together, Minister Asim stated that the establishment of the alliance is a step forward to counterterrorism and Maldives will support every effort of the alliance. He said following this alliance, it would develop new methods and fronts to combat terrorism.

Stating the efforts of Maldivian government in the fight against terrorism, Minister Asim noted that several measures are being taken under the Anti-Terrorism Act of Maldives. Furthermore, he noted that the Government of Maldives has established a counter terrorism centre in the efforts to combat terrorism.

Regarding the Arab-Islamic American Summit, Minister for Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee, who is also in Riyadh, said though Maldives is a small country; Maldives plays an important role in the Islamic World.

The Arab-Islamic-American Summit held in Riyadh succeeded in building close partnership to confront extremism, terrorism, fostering regional and international peace, stability and development. Over 50 leaders and representatives of Arab, Islamic countries and the U.S. took part in the summit.
