PPM showing exemplary democratic behavior: Home Minister

Minister of Home Affairs Azleen Ahmed has stated that ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has been showing nothing but exemplary democratic behavior in all situations.

Addressing Wednesday night's ruling coalition rally, Minister Azleen said that although the ruling coalition was unable to gain a clear majority in the local council polls, the government has not engaged in any activity intended to create discord among citizens. He reiterated the government's stance that they would not hinder development, even in administrative regions where polls showed a clear opposition majority.

In his speech, the Home Minister said that even in the past, and especially since President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom came into power, the utmost priority has been to societal peace and development. He added that the efforts at that time were not intended as a means to secure the local council polls.

Describing the council election results as far from a failure, Minister Azleen said that the election was an opportunity to further strengthen the party.
